Recipe Idea: Pumpkin Bourbon Shake

cheat dessert: Pumpkin bourbon shake

There’s a time and a place to eat healthy (for us, that’s like 95% of the time).  There’s also a 5%-ish time and place to just enjoy the cheat meals and desserts.  What’s there to life if you don’t balance out your hard work with something delicious on occasion?

This pumpkin bourbon shake is a go-to at least twice every single fall/winter in our house.  It’s not for the lactose intolerant, those who refrain from alcohol, or those who hate pumpkin.  If you don’t fall into those categories, this is definitely a cheat dessert to throw into your seasonal arsenal every once in a great while.  It is perhaps the best thing ever.

This will make one milkshake and took me about 5 minutes to make, so just double everything if you’re making this for two. (Though I don’t quite double the bourbon, personally.  I’ll often keep it to 1.5 shots when doubling the recipe).

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 cup of vanilla ice cream
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1/4 cup pureed pumpkin (I use Libby brand)
  • A dash of pumpkin pie spice to your preference
  • 1 shot of bourbon (you can obviously omit this!)
  • A few sprinkles of cinnamon (on top)
  • You can even add a dollop of whipped cream if you prefer (optional)
HOW TO MAKE THE DARN THING:

Place all your ingredients in a blender and blend until it resembles a milkshake.  If you don’t drink or are making this for people who don’t drink, including kids, just omit the bourbon.  Not a big deal!

It may be a little more runny compared to a normal, thick milkshake because of the bourbon.

You can also adjust the recipe if you like a certain flavor more than another one.

WARNING:

We typically enjoy this pumpkin bourbon shake after dinner and before bed at home.  The combo of the bourbon and ice cream tends to make us feel both cozy and sleepy, so it’s best for us to enjoy right before bed.
